Buckeyes | A Sweet Treat from Ohio

This is a family favorite and they always disappeared a little too quick around my house!  My family is originally from Columbus, Ohio and my mom loved making these as a treat at Christmas time.  Enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 lbs Powdered sugar (3 cups)
  • .5 lb butter or margarine
  • 1 lb Peanut Butter (2 cups)
Mix together ingredients. Form into balls the size of buckeyes (a ball approx. 1/2 to 3/4 in in diameter).  Place on wax paper and refrigerate overnight.  *Tip~you can refrigerate the mixture for 15-20 minutes so it's not so sticky when you roll into balls.  Also helps to apply a little margarine to your hands!

Dipping Ingredients:
  • 12 ox package of Chocolate Chips
  • 1/2 stick of Paraffin
Melt chocolate and paraffin in a double boiler.  Using a toothpick, dip previously chilled balls into chocolate mixture, leaving part of the buckeye uncovered (about the size of a dime).  Please on wax paper and refrigerate.

Yield: 3 lbs.

Enjoy!
